Callie Kolacny has been covering northwest Kansas news since 1999.  She is an Ellis native and graduate of Washburn University.  Along with her duties as News Director, Callie enjoys assisting with the Fort Hays State University sports broadcasts.

Mike Hammett joined Eagle Radio in June 2008 as the Assistant News/Sports Director.  Prior to coming to Eagle, Mike served as the Editor-in-Chief of the University Leader at Fort Hays State University.  He has also worked for the Hays Daily News.  Mike is a native of Marysville and a graduate of Fort Hays State University.

Together, Callie and Mike bring an excellent combination of experience and energy to KAYS News.

                North Central Kansas Technical College has developed the Kansas Institute of Underground Technology. This training will provide the skills needed to correctly and safely bury fiber optics, cables, electrical lines and pipes. President Clark Coco says this is the only training program of this kind in the United States. Courses will be provided in directional drilling, location technology and drilling fluids. Courses will begin in October. More information is available at undergroundtech.com.

The Hays City Commission will not hold Thursday night’s regularly scheduled work session. The meeting has been canceled because of a lack of a quorum. The commission was scheduled to discuss bids for naming rights within the sports complex, the reconstruction of 41st Street and a review of fireworks policies from the last 4th of July.

       The Internal Revenue Service is warning about a fraudulent scheme targeting taxpayers who use the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System to pay federal taxes electronically via the Internet or phone.The scheme uses an e-mail that claims your tax payment was rejected and directs you to a website for additional information. The website contains malware that will attempt to infect your computer. The IRS says if you receive a suspicious e-mail or an e-mail from someone claiming to be from the IRS directing you to website for additional information, do not reply to the sender, access links on the site or submit any information to them.  Forward the e-mail or URL information to the IRS.
